I really like the name Ebony with Grace for a middle name but and I don't mean to cause any offence here I can't help thinking that it would suit a [cringe emoticon] darker skinned girl.
It's just I knew 2 Ebony's when u was younger and they were mixed race. I liked that name too, when I mentioned it to my mum she laughed and said but the baby won't be black. I also love Briony, it sounds similar. I thought it was a nice sounding name but then I put it into google. Search revealed: It's a type of wood Ebony magazine is one of the oldest African American magazines Ebony is a black porn genre So for me, I'd have to say don't use it.
I once knew a blonde Ebony and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I wondered if her mother knew what it meant. This was about years ago when it was rarer to have unusual names. My dd has an aboriginal Bianca in her class and I have never thought about that until now, but somehow it's just not the same with Ebony.
I think it's just so strongly associated with black pride as mentioned above with the magasine etc. I also think of Snow White with hair as black as Ebony. I think she'd have to have dark hair at least. Funny, I was considering the name Blanche for a future mixed race dd but have similar reservations, I would also be breaking the mould somewhat as it's considered so old fashioned. I rather like it, I think it means white or fair in a more general sense, like a blank sheet of paper and Bianca Jagger was hardly blonde.
Ok I guess it's what I thought to start with. Will not be using Ebony. There are names that shouldn't be used on certain people. This is just one of them. Thanks x. For me she would have to have dark eyes at the very least. I know a mousey haired blue eyed Ebony and it doesn't suit her tbh but her siblings all have very "out there" names. I would find it slightly odd on a white or fair person, as the only Ebonys I have known two were black.
